MacBook’s 17% Sales Increases Proves Competitiveness

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, the notebook shipment of Apple made an estimated 3.9 million units. According to the new data released by TrendForce, this represents a 17% increase in the quarter-to-quarter sales.

Apple vs. Rivals

In the ranking of 2nd quarter, the company ground ASUS at 5th place. This makes a 0.65% increase over the past quarter, leaving Apple and ASUS to take 10% market share. TrendForce emphasized the decision of Apple to update their MacBook 12-inch as one reason for their gains.

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Shipments of global notebook listed a successive 5.7% quarterly increase. It also listed a 3.5% year-on-year increase. This totals 39.97 million units. The main driving force behind the shipments of 2nd quarter wes said to be the arrival of new models and the sales in the United States. It has a great demand in the whole half of 2017, surpassing the expectations in the market.

On the other side of the fence, the market share of HP increased around 8.6% due to the back-to-school sales. This allowed HP to stay top 1 in the ranking of global shipment for the 5th successive quarters. On the other hand, Dell made the biggest successive 21.3% increase to take the top 3 in the ranking. Meanwhile, in the 2nd quarter, Lenovo just shipped around 8.04 million units. This represents a drop of 2.5% on the year-on-year shipment. It is said that the slowdown in the market notebook in the Asian Pacific region affected the performance of the brand.

In the United States, the aggressive expansion of Acer in the market of Chromebook did a bit to keep away rival models. This caused Acer’s shipments of notebook to decrease by 3.4% from the 1st quarter to 3.21 million units. The brand remains top 6 in the global ranking.

Preparing for the 3rd Quarter

According to TrendForce, there will be worries in the market that this year’s shipment results will pull off some shipment in the upcoming 3rd quarter. However, it is also expected that the shipments of notebook in the 3rd quarter will increase around 3 up to 5% unlike the 2nd quarter.

According to some analyst, Apple is working on a top-end MacBook Pro 15-inch model that would include RAM of 32GB. It is said that the production of this device will begin in the 4th quarter of 2017.
