Elon Musk has just announced a historic mission for humanity as it will go back to the Moon by 2018.
Great things are needed to be overcome in order for SpaceX to successfully achieve its goal of sending humans back to the moon by 2017. Just last Feb. 27, SpaceX CEO and founder Elon Musk has just announced that he plans to launch two private citizens to the moon by the end of 2018.
However, the two people will have to pay for the weeklong lunar trip. According to Hale, a director in Special Aerospace Services, the planned lunar mission of Musk is an extraordinarily difficult task. This is despite the recent technological advancements that the company has.
Humans Will Go Back to the Moon
He adds that it is very likely that this will happen eventually, but if people are going to talk about it happening next year, it might not be the case. Hale then says that the schedule is very aggressive, which makes it unbelievable.
However, he then says that the wishes them the best of luck and hopefully, they get to meet the deadline. SpaceX will be using its own Dragon V2 crew capsule in going to the moon.
Its rocket will then be the Falcon Heavy. Unfortunately, the Falcon Heavy has not been tested yet. This is the main reason why most people are skeptical about the moon mission happening next year.
Hopefully, its test flight this coming summer will be a success, so as to silence the skeptics. As of now, SpaceX has also not launched any crewed mission, another reason for the doubts which surround it.
Meanwhile, SpaceX is now currently in a multibillion-dollar partnership with NASA. It is tasked in carrying astronauts to and fro the ISS using the Dragon V2 capsule. With this, the first NASA-SpaceX crewed ISS flight will take place in the middle of 2018.
Moon Mission Will Happen Sooner or Later
And if ever SpaceX will indeed push through with its moon mission, they need to modify the Dragon V2 capsule. An enhanced communication system and a stronger heat shield is needed to go the moon.
Knowing that SpaceX doesn’t always meet its deadline, there’s a huge probability that its moon mission might get postponed. But nonetheless, the fact that SpaceX has been able to accomplish the impossible makes it very likely that it will indeed succeed in going to the moon. Perhaps not in 2018, but in 2019 or 2020.
With all of these being said, SpaceX is indeed bringing back humanity’s hope for a better future. Indeed, Elon Musk knows that the future and survival of the human race lies in outer space. With the help of Musk’s inner genius and SpaceX’s passion, humanity is on the right path.
