Along with India, Philippines have the lowest average speed in terms of internet connection. But, this fact will eventually be forgotten as two major telecommunications company in the Philippines are going to add additional internet spectrums to the said country.
According to a survey conducted by Akamai, a leading provider of Content Delivery Network (CDN) services for media and software delivery, called “State of the Internet Q2 2016 Report”, India and the Philippines have the lowest internet speed with 3.6 Mbps for India and 4.3 Mbps for the Philippines. Filipinos are not shocked with this result since it is evident that their internet browsing speed is indeed, inferior in comparison with other countries.
Improvements are coming
Two major telecommunications, namely, Philippines Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and Globe Telecom, recently announced the creation of and additional wireless or internet spectrum, thus improving the slow internet speed that is expected from the Philippines. Aside from this, the two major network service provider assured us that this improvement will not be as costly as possible, making the Filipinos more excited with the incoming change.
This improvement will be a big game changer for Filipinos as it opens a broader horizon in the context of internet speed and its usage.
The survey conducted by Akamai showed a yearly growth in observed average connection speeds in 15 Asia-Pacific countries.
Indonesia topped the result with over 148 percent gain, the only country to double their internet speed in the year prior. Other countries internet speed ranges from 5.1% in Japan to 63% in Thailand. The Philippines, however, remained in the middle of the list with a 79 percent gain compared with other countries with only a single digit percentage gain.
Most of the countries only saw a little improvement which is more than enough for them.
